Pastoral area Lankwitz-Marienfelde
The pastoral area Lankwitz-Marienfelde is an organizational unit in the Archdiocese of Berlin with a good 9,000 Catholics. It consists of the two parishes Mater Dolorosa in the Berlin districts of Lankwitz and the neighboring area of Lichterfelde-Süd and Vom Guten Hirten in the Berlin district of Marienfelde , to which the St. Alfons Church also belongs.
location
The territory in the south of Berlin has an area of 14.5 square kilometers . The pastoral area borders in the south on the federal state Brandenburg with the communities Teltow and Großbeeren , in the west in Lichterfelde along the S-Bahn line S25 to the pastoral area of Berlin southwest , in the north in Lankwitz to the pastoral area of Steglitz-Lankwitz-Dahlem and in the east to the pastoral area of Lichtenrade-Buckow-Mariendorf-Tempelhof with the two districts of Mariendorf and Lichtenrade .
Places of Church Life
In addition to the previous congregations, the pastoral space includes numerous “places of church life” that are integrated into the social space and act independently, but at the same time are ecclesiastical and thus give people the opportunity to come into contact with the church:
These include the two Catholic schools Sankt Alfons and Sankt Hildegard as well as the Sankt-Marien-Krankenhaus and the neighboring monastery of Sankt Augustinus der Maria Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (SMI). There are also three Catholic day care centers as well as several institutions of the German Caritas Association and the Catholic Working Group for Soldiers Care (KAS).
The Kolping Family Berlin-Marienfelde, the German Scouts Saint Georg ( Don Bosco tribe ) and a group of the Catholic Women's Community in Germany are also active in the pastoral area.
Church life is supported by two foundations with legal capacity, the Maria Immaculata Foundation for the Sankt-Marien-Hospital and the Mater Dolorosa Berlin-Lankwitz Foundation .

development

As a result of the financial crisis in the Archdiocese of Berlin in 2003 , many parishes in the Archdiocese were already merged by 2009 under Georg Cardinal Sterzinsky . In 2012, Archbishop Rainer Maria Cardinal Woelki called for the creation of pastoral spaces with even larger structures with his Advent Shepherd's letter under the motto Where faith gains space .
On February 20, 2017, the decision was made to form the Lankwitz-Marienfelde pastoral space, which was opened on September 14, 2017 with a pontifical office with Archbishop Heiner Koch in the Mater Dolorosa church.
A three-year development phase follows, which should be completed by Advent 2020 with the formation of a large parish by merging the existing parishes. In the first year the community in the pastoral space should be established, in the second year a pastoral concept should be created and in the third year the places of church life should be brought together.
