The Catholic Orphan and Poor Children's House Foundation Augsburg (also known as the Catholic Orphanage Foundation Augsburg ) is a public foundation under civil law and is used solely for the operation and financial maintenance of St. Gregor's child, youth and family welfare in Augsburg . It goes back to the orphanage founded in 1572 and is one of the oldest institutions of its kind in Europe.

history

In 1572 the alms office of the city of Augsburg acquired a property in the Bäckergasse (Litera A 134/135, location ) and then opened an interdenominational orphanage there. In 1630, the imperial edict of restitution gave the facility a Catholic orientation. After the end of the Thirty Years War , the facility was finally given to the Protestants in 1649. The new, still existing Catholic orphanage opened on the cross.

In 1811 it was merged with the foundel and poor children's home to form the Catholic orphan and poor children's home. The institution was then handed over to the Order of Poor School Sisters from 1853 . An orphanage school was also founded by the nuns.

The facility was badly hit by the Allied air raids in World War II and had to be rebuilt after the war. In 1961 the city of Augsburg released the foundation from its administration and the independent Catholic Orphanage Foundation was established. In 1967 the orphanage school looked after by the nuns was closed. In 1986, due to a lack of staff, the Order decided to leave the facility.

The name “St. Gregor-Heim of the Catholic Orphanage Foundation "was established in 2003 in" St. Gregor Child, Youth and Family Aid of the Catholic Orphanage Foundation Augsburg ”changed.

purpose

St. Gregor Child, Youth and Family Aid in Augsburg (2017)

The exclusive and immediate purpose of the foundation is the operation and financial maintenance of St. Gregor child, youth and family welfare . This facility now looks after over 700 children, adolescents and young adults aged 3 to 20 and - as far as possible - their families continuously. There are also numerous short-term consultations and open offers. A differentiated range of services has been developed for needs-based educational work: youth social work at schools, family counseling, outreach educational aids, remedial educational day care centers, home education in residential groups, host families, living for mentally ill mothers and their children, as well as adventure and cultural education. The facility is located in Augsburg and in the administrative districts of Augsburg and Dillingen an der Donau .

capital

The foundation's assets form the basis of the foundation . Since this foundation is to be preserved permanently, only the interest income generated from the foundation's assets is used to finance St. Gregor's child, youth and family welfare . In addition, the institution receives endowments in the form of donations and testamentary dispositions.

Board of Trustees

The management and administration of the foundation is the responsibility of a 10-member board of trustees (administration). This is made up as follows:

  • Head of St. Gregor Child, Youth and Family Aid
  • Foundation officer of the city of Augsburg
  • a clergyman appointed by the bishop
  • two Catholic city council members
  • five citizens of the city of Augsburg
