Kathryn McGuire (born December 6, 1903 in Peoria , Illinois , † October 10, 1978 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress of the silent film era .

life and career

Kathryn McGuire, whose date of birth is contradicting information, began her show career as a dancer. The director Thomas H. Ince discovered the young woman and offered her a first film contract. In the following years Kathryn McGuire turned mainly comedies for Mack Sennett and Lupino Lane . In 1922 she was one of the first actresses to be named WAMPAS Baby Stars . Her most famous roles today were as partner of Buster Keaton in the silent comedies Sherlock, Jr. and The Navigator , both from 1924. After the start of the sound film , her career ended quickly and in 1930 she made her last of over 80 films. In the late 1950s, McGuire returned briefly to the acting business with guest roles in two television series.

McGuire was married to George Landy, a publicity manager for film studios, until her death in 1955 - their daughter was born in 1936. Kathryn McGuire died of cancer in 1978 at the age of 74.
