Katrina Pierson , maiden name Katrina Lanette Shaddix , (born July 20, 1976 in Kansas ) is an American Republican activist of the Tea Party movement who became spokeswoman for Donald Trump's presidential campaign in November 2015 .

She was born in the US state of Kansas to a 15-year-old white mother and a black father. Her mother wanted to put her up for adoption, but failed to do so. After a childhood in poverty, she was married for three months. Pierson was caught shoplifting in Texas in 1997 when she was 20 years old. At a J.C. Penney store, she was planning to steal $ 168 worth of clothing for an interview with her three-month-old son. She graduated from Community College in Kilgore, Texas and in 2006 a BA in Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas .

After she had voted for Barack Obama in 2008, Pierson became active in the tea party movement . In April 2009 she called for Texas to leave the United States at a tea party event in Dallas. Pierson founded the local tea party group in Garland, Texas, where she lives .

In 2012, Pierson supported Ted Cruz in the Senate election for Texas and performed with him on stage. In 2012, she tweeted about Mitt Romney and Barack Obama that there were probably no more pure-bred candidates ( Any pure breeds left? ). She was later criticized for this racist contribution.

In the Texas congressional election in 2014, Pierson ran against Pete Sessions in the 32nd district. Her candidacy was supported by Rafael Bienvenido Cruz , the father of Senator Ted Cruz , and Sarah Palin , while Ted Cruz himself only mentioned her praise. By mid-February 2014, Pierson had raised only $ 76,000 in campaign funding, while Sessions raised twenty times as much. In the March primaries, Pierson received 36% of the vote and 63% for sessions. Pierson became spokeswoman for the Tea Party "leadership fund".

Trump 2016

In January 2015, Pierson attended a tea party meeting with Ted Cruz, where she also met Donald Trump . After further meetings and the announcement of his candidacy in June 2015, Pierson presented Trump at an election campaign event in Dallas in September 2015. In November 2015, she was hired as the nationwide spokesperson for his campaign and has since been considered an unwavering supporter of Trump, even with his controversial remarks. Pierson's comment on the Afghan war attracted attention because it claimed that President Obama was responsible for America's war in Afghanistan (Obama was elected president in 2008; the US Afghan war began in 2001).
