Katrina Wreede

Katrina Wreede (* 1960 in Michigan ) is an American composer, violist and music teacher.

As a violist, Wreede plays classical music as well as Tango Nuevo , Indian and Gypsy music and jazz . She performed as a soloist with orchestras and was a member of the Turtle Island String Quartet until 1992 . She was a founding member of the John Adams Young Composer Program at the Crowden School and taught composition for the American Composers Forum from 1998 to 2004 and 2007 to 2009 . She was also "Composer in the Schools" at Berkeley High School from 1998 to 2000 on behalf of the American Composers Forum . Initiated, by Daryl Silberman the Alternative Strings Program of the Crowden School and was founder and director of the Sierra Jazz Society's Junior Jazz Camp and Junior Composer Program of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra . She also gave courses and workshops at the Boston Conservatory , Cal Tech's Prep High School , the University of Colorado at Boulder and the Berklee College of Music and published the study books Viola Aerobics-a Technical Workout and 24 Diverse Duets .

Wreede composed numerous works for the viola, for chamber music ensembles and for orchestra, including film and dance music. They were u. a. from the Chamber Orchestra of Boston , the San Jose Chamber Orchestra , the Pegasus Quartet and the San Jose Quartet , the Colorado Chamber Players , violist Karen Elaine , the Mill Valley Philharmonic Orchestra , the Axis Dance Company , the David Parsons Dance Company , the Argentina's Orchestra Rosario and the Northern California Viola Society .
