The department store no. 1 is a shopping center in the North Korean capital Pyongyang .
It is located on Sungri Street in Dong Jongro-dong in Chung-guyŏk District . The opening took place in 1982 . With an area of 40,000 m² on nine floors, it is the largest in the country. It is primarily intended for foreign guests, payment is only possible with foreign currency . Goods exhibitions are held at regular intervals. The selection is said to be "moderate".
It is operated by a North Korean-Chinese joint venture .
