The trolleybus Pyongyang is the trolleybus system of the North Korean capital Pyongyang . Together with the Pyongyang Metro and the Pyongyang Tram, it carries the brunt of the city's local public transport.

history

On April 30, 1962, the first lines were officially put into operation. The network is constantly being expanded.

At the beginning there were three lines; Pyongyang West - Pyongyang Central Station , Hwanggumbol - Triumphal Arch , Munsu - Pyongyang Department Store No. 2 .

Parked trolleybuses

The section Songyo – Songsin the tram, which was discontinued in 2014, was converted to trolleybus operation. Trolleybuses were already running on a section of the route before the tram was introduced.

Since the spring of 2016, a new (10.1 km long) line has been running from the main train station via Mirae Street to the Palace of Science and Technology on the island of Ssuk-sŏm ; access is via the Chungsong Bridge . In the same year, a new car shed in Pyongyang-yok (near the main train station) was put into operation.

Ten lines operated in 2018. Line numbers are not used.

vehicles

Most of the vehicles come from the local manufacturer Pyongyang Trolleybus Works . The most common type is the Ch'ŏllima-091 . There are also some older models with a long service life . The fleet consists of over 300 vehicles. Some converted Ikarus buses are passed on to the Sariwŏn trolleybus . The operator plans to purchase 200 new vehicles in order to be able to decommission the old stock (20%).

Trivia

Solowagen 141 had 30 stars in 2010, so it already had an odometer reading of over 1,500,000 kilometers

For every 50,000 kilometers traveled, a star is attached to the outside of the corresponding trolleybus. There are vehicles in stock that have already covered more than 2.5 million kilometers.
