education

Germany

The usually three-year dual training is offered in industry and trade and is a recognized profession under the Vocational Training Act (BBiG). A certain school education is not required by law.

Since the regulation on vocational training for freight forwarding and logistics services came into force, special emphasis has been placed on modern forwarding and logistical services as well as information technology, safety in freight transport and the English language.

Austria

Forwarding agent and forwarding logistics specialist are two closely related but separate apprenticeships in Austria. The training content corresponds to the tasks and activities described above. The focus of training for the forwarding agent is more on the administrative and commercial area (such as cost accounting, offers, customs papers). Forwarding logistics specialists are trained more specifically for logistics management, warehouse management , costing and customer advice.

Apprentices in both professions complete a three-year dual training course in Austria and then take the final apprenticeship examination. This examination is also valid as a qualification for the apprenticeship as an office clerk . Related apprenticeships with similar areas of responsibility can be completed with a shorter apprenticeship period.

With a subsequent proficiency test , freight forwarders and logistics specialists can work independently in the regulated trade of freight forwarders and transport agents.
