The merchant in rail and road transport is a state-recognized training occupation in Germany according to the Vocational Training Act .

Duration of training and structure

The training period for a businessman in rail and road transport is usually three years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school .

Work areas

Merchants in railway and road work in companies that transport and infrastructure services offer for road and rail. These are, for example, freight forwarders , public transport companies, but also private railway companies as well as postal and courier services . You will work there in commercial control, in marketing , take care of quality management, personnel administration, purchasing and materials management . Their activity includes the planning and sale of transport services. But you are also involved in accounting and controlling in your company. Occasionally, they organize and monitor the transport of people and goods .

The profession was initially in high demand. However, no training contracts have been concluded in recent years. It is therefore questionable whether the profession is still needed.
