Kauko Kalervo Nyström (born March 3, 1933 in Somero ; † February 1, 2009 ) was a Finnish athlete who won bronze in the pole vault at the European Athletics Championships in 1962 .

Nyström boxed as a teenager and switched to athletics late. In 1956 he first appeared in the Finnish national team, he was part of the Finnish team in an international match of the decathletes against Germany. His best performance in the pole vault was 4.40 meters in 1961, and in 1963 he crossed 4.83 meters. Also in 1963 he won his only Finnish championship with 4.80 meters. Nyström owed this increase in performance to the introduction of the fiberglass rod, which Finnish athletes used very early on, which gave them a certain lead in Europe at the beginning of the 1960s.

At the European Championships 1962 in Belgrade, the Finn won Pentti Nikula with 4.80 meters, 4.60 meters each were Rudolf Tomášek from Czechoslovakia and Kauko Nyström on the second and third, in fourth place followed by Risto Ankio the third Finn to 4.55 meters.

After his career, Kauko Nyström was the organizer of a pole vault competition in his hometown Somero for over 30 years.
