The Kavali ( Greek Νησίδες Καβάλοι Nisides Kavali ), also Kavallos Islands , are three small uninhabited islands on the southeast coast of the Greek island of Crete . They are located about 430 meters from the Trachilos peninsula ( Ακρωτήριο Τράχηλος ) on the Cretan coast and administratively belong to the municipality of Sitia in the Lasithi regional district .

The archipelago includes the islands of Kavalos ( Καβάλος ), Kefali ( Κεφαλή ) and Anavatis ( Αναβάτης ). Originally only the two western islands (excluding Kefali in the northeast) were called Kavallos Islands. The name goes back to the Italian word Cavallo for horse , after which the largest in area and at 59 meters the highest of the three islands of Kavalos in the southwest is named. The second largest island Kefali ('head') rises about 650 meters northeast of Kavalos up to 47 meters from the sea. The smallest island in the Anavatis archipelago ('rider') is 24 meters high and lies 25 meters northwest of Kavalos . The three rocky islands are uninhabited and only covered with low vegetation .
