Kawaii Metal (also known as Idol Metal or Kawaiicore ; derived from kawaii ( か わ い い ), German "cute" or "delightful") is a metal subgenre that emerged in Japan around 2010 , which is heavily influenced by J-Pop and (to a lesser extent ) is influenced by EDM .

A typical composition combines the instrumentation of different metal styles (especially Power Metal , Speed Metal , Industrial Metal , Black Metal and Death Metal ) as well as J-Pop melodies and the aesthetics of girl groups of the Japanese idol scene (aidoru) . The lyrics sung in Japanese (and occasionally in English ) are - in contrast to the accompanying music - often less aggressive than in the other metal subgenres and deal with topics that are otherwise common in pop music.

Kawaii metal groups are usually made up of women. Babymetal is regarded as the best known and most successful international representative . Other groups in this subgenre include a. Aldious , Doll $ Boxx , FruitPochette , Ladybaby and Necronomidol .
