Ladybaby was a kawaii metal band from Japan .
history
Wrestler Richard Magarey , originally from Adelaide , Australia , moved to China in 2006 to start his martial arts stunt career, but later moved to Hong Kong , where he was celebrated as a crossdressing professional wrestler because of his appearance . In October 2013, Magarey, who gave himself the name Ladybeard , went to Japan to pursue a similar career. With the two idols Rie Kaneko and Rei Kuromiya , he founded the band Ladybaby, which was hired by the Japanese costume maker Clearstone for advertising purposes, and released the first song Nippon Manju , which is about all the things they love about Japan. The music video, which was published on the YouTube video platform in July 2015 , became a viral hit and reached a million views in two days.
The second single Age-Age Money , released on January 13, 2016, reached number 15 on the daily Oricon charts. The song landed at number 31 in the official Japanese single charts . With Magarey's official exit on August 1, 2016, the group now called themselves The Idol Formerly Known as Ladybaby and gave their first concert in their new constellation in September of the same year. In 2017 the band signed a contract with JPU Records and released the EP Pelo on the European market. A little later followed with Pinky! Pinky! another single. In the middle of November of the same year, Rei Kuromiya left the band due to her disenchantment with the idol culture and problems with the throat caused by excessive touring from the band, which led to a temporary end of the band.
In March 2018, a compilation entitled Beside U was released in Japan. A month earlier, a return of the band under the name Ladybaby with a new line-up was indicated. Kaneko is supported by Nana Ikeda, Emily Arima and Fuka Karasawa. A tour in spring 2018 has been announced. On May 10, 2018, the music video for her comeback single Hoshi no Nai Sora was released , which was released as a maxi CD on May 30 of the same year . It has also been confirmed that Ladybeard will be heard on a B-side. On October 29, 2019, Ladybaby announced the breakup of the band on Facebook and on the official website after the last concert on January 13, 2020.
music
Ladybaby's music is a mixture of Japanese pop music , EDM and various types of heavy metal and extreme metal . Magarey referred to the group's music as "Kawaiicore". Most of the texts are written in Japanese , with individual words coming from English .
