Kazak Iceland ( English , Russian Остров Казак Ostrow Kasak , German , Kasacheninsel ' ) is a small island off the Ingrid Christensen Coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth country . In the southern part of the Vestfold Mountains, it is located in Prydz Bay 1 km south of the island of Muløy .
Norwegian cartographers mapped them in 1946 using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . Further aerial photographs were taken during the US operation Highjump (1946–1947), in 1956 during a Soviet Antarctic expedition and in 1957 and 1958 during campaigns by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . Russian scientists made the naming. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia translated this into English.
