Kazimierz Skrzypecki

Kazimierz Skrzypecki (* 1909 or 1910; † January 22, 1964 in Innsbruck ) was a British luge rider .

Career

Skrzypecki was born in Poland and fled to Great Britain after the occupation of his homeland by National Socialist Germany during World War II .

In 1964 he came to Innsbruck for the premiere of the luge competitions at the Olympic Winter Games . At 54, Skrzypecki was the oldest athlete to compete in the Innsbruck Games. A week before the start of the games, he had an accident while training on the bobsleigh and toboggan run in Igls . On January 22, 1964 around 10:30 in the morning, he drove over the edge of the uppermost curve at a speed of about 50 km / h, spun 10 to 15 m through the air and then hit a frozen meadow. A skull fracture and a fracture of the upper arm were found in the hospital; in the evening Skrzypecki died from his injuries.
