Kediri ( Javanese ꦏꦸꦛꦑꦼꦝꦶꦫꦶ ) is an Indonesian city in the province of East Java (Jawa Timur) .
geography
Kediri is located in the interior of the island of Java , about 100 km from the provincial capital Surabaya . As a city ( Kota ), it is directly subordinate to the province of East Java. It is also the administrative seat of the Kediri administrative district .
history
Around 1940 a meteorite fell in a rubber plantation about ten kilometers south of Kediri. The meteorite was later given the official name Kediri .
Sports
The largest football club in the city is called Persik and currently plays in the highest Indonesian league, League 1 .
