Kelomat is the brand name of a pressure cooker in Austria.

history

The Upper Austrian company Gruber & Kaja developed it in the 1950s . The name became a synonym for a pressure cooker in Austria . Originally made of aluminum , the saucepan was made of stainless steel from the 1980s, like those of the competition. The production was in Rohrbach an der Gölsen in Lower Austria.

In 2001 Gruber & Kaja withdrew to the core business of die casting for the automotive supply industry and sold the Kelomat trademark rights to the new manufacturer, Riess Kelomat GmbH in Ybbsitz, Lower Austria . Riess Kelomat has been in the metalworking industry for over 450 years and is one of the oldest companies in Austria.

Kelomats were offered in different volume sizes. In particular, there were different heights that could be provided with a lid of the same diameter. A mark indicates the angle at which the bayonet can be assembled. Turning the cover to the right by about 30 ° will completely reduce the bayonet lock .

The elastomer sealing lip to be inserted in the lid by the user has a safety function. If the spring valve screwed in the center of the lid is jammed or misplaced, the sealing lip on a part of the circumference where the pot has a slightly lower milled edge can fold outwards and release generous steam to prevent the pot from bursting .

In addition to cookware, knives and many other kitchen utensils are now available under the brand name Kelomat .
