Riess Kelomat GmbH ( own spelling RIESS KELOmat ) is a metal processing Austrian family company based in Ybbsitz .

The company, whose roots go back to 1550, is today the only cookware manufacturer in Austria according to its own statement . In 2014 the turnover was 15 million euros with 120 employees. The export quota is 25 percent. The company tries to differentiate itself from the not insignificant competition through quality, design, flexibility, innovation and sustainability. Riess Kelomat was able to secure Austrian and international awards.

history

In 1890 the forging business for metal drawn and pressed products was restructured. The three brothers Julian, Leopold and Josef Riess started enamelling cookware in 1922 . Between 1926 and 1935, the brothers built three hydropower plants to generate energy.

In 2000, Julian, Friedrich and Susanne Rieß took over the management of the family company in the ninth generation. In 2001 Riess GesmbH & Co KG took over the Kelomat brand from the Upper Austrian auto supplier Gruber & Kaja, who had registered the brand in 1948. At that time, Gruber & Kaja was the market leader with pressure cookers in Austria, but wanted to separate from the division and focus on cast products.

Exports were expanded until 2005, so that they delivered to more than 35 countries. China has also been part of the market since 2014.

When it comes to energy, you are self-sufficient with electricity from your own small hydropower.

The shape introduced in 1923 - it replaced cast zinc with raised fracture letters, which is now reproduced in historical ensembles made of fiber-reinforced plastic - of the dark blue Viennese street signs is produced by Riess. The street signs in Graz, Klagenfurt, Frankfurt / Airport and Trieste are also manufactured by Riess-Kelomat. The top enamel in Viennese blue is melted over the base enamel. Finally, the script (Latin letters with serifs) is applied by screen printing and then burned on in a third melting process, this time at 820 ° C.
