Kemco ( Japanese ケ ム コ ; also known under the name Kotobuki System ) is a Japanese developer and publisher of video games .

Company history

Founded in 1984 as a subsidiary of Kotobuki Engineering & Manufacturing Co., Ltd , the video game company produced numerous titles for various consoles, including the Top Gear racing game series and the Crazy Castle series.

Kemco logo from 1984/85 to 1999. As of 1994, the emblem in front of the name was largely dispensed with.

As one of the first Nintendo licensees, Kemco initially developed games for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). December 1985 came out with Dough Boy (ダ ウ ボ ー イ), the port of a C64 war game from Synsoft , Kemco's first game for the Japanese NES version . While the company only produced titles for Nintendo consoles for a long time, after the N64 era it also published games for the competing systems Xbox , PlayStation and Playstation 2 .

Several licensed games emerged from the collaboration with DC Comics , Warner Bros. and Universal Studios .

After Kemco founded the US subsidiary Kemco USA in 2001, the games company seems to have withdrawn completely from the North American and European markets by 2007 at the latest. Announced titles like Top Gear: Downforce for the Nintendo DS and Lobo for Xbox and Playstation 2 remained unreleased.

Kemco is currently limited to the development and distribution of games for smartphones and mobile Internet services.
