The Kemp-field mouse ( Deltamys kempi ) is in South America living rodent species from the group of New world .

These rodents are stocky, vole-like animals with short limbs. Their fur is gray-brown on top, the underside is lighter.

They live on the lower reaches of the Río Paraná in eastern Argentina , Uruguay and southeastern Brazil ( Rio Grande do Sul ), where they inhabit grasslands. Their diet probably consists of plants and small animals.

Systematics

The systematic position of the Kemp field mouse is controversial. Wilson & Reeder (2005) list them as the only species in the genus Deltamys . Other sources, however, assign them to the South American field mice ( Akodon ). Another Deltamys species was described in mid-2017 . Deltamys araucaria is endemic to araucaria forests in southern Brazil . Another, previously undescribed species lives in the mountainous south of Brazil, while it occurs in lower areas.
