Kenji Kurosaki ( Japanese 黒 崎 健 時 , Kurosaki Kenji ; born March 15, 1930 in the municipality of Kuwa (now part of the city of Oyama , Tochigi Prefecture ); called Oni ) is a Japanese martial arts expert . He is co-founder of Kyokushin Karate (10th Dan) and a pioneer of kickboxing and Muay Thai in Japan.

Life

Kurosaki, who is known for his excellent leg techniques, studied together with Masutatsu Ōyama since 1951 karate in the style of Gōjū-ryū in the "Asakusa-dojo" of Gogen Yamaguchi before they developed the Kyokushin in 1953. After founding the "Kyokushinkai Honbu" in Tokyo in 1954, he was one of the main teachers who made the new system known internationally. Kurosaki taught in Hawaii in 1965 before coming to the Netherlands in 1965. During this time, Kurosaki and his friend Jon C. Bluming contributed to the spread of Kyokushin in Europe. In 1976 he separated from the International Karate Organization (IKO) led by Ōyama due to its commercial demands and market-oriented ambitions. Kurosaki has been honorary chairman of the International Budo Kaikan (IBK) since September 1992.
