Kenneth Granviel

Kenneth Granviel (born August 4, 1950 in Tarrant County , Texas , † February 27, 1996 in Huntsville , Walker County , Texas) was an American multiple murderer. He killed seven people and was executed in 1996 .

Events

On October 7, 1974, Granviel killed three women and two children of the McClendon family, who were friends with him, in an apartment complex in Fort Worth . He used a butcher's knife as a weapon. He was arrested on February 8, 1975 after raping one woman, abducting another, and taking several people hostage in a Fort Worth home.

While in custody, he confessed to the rape and murder of two other women and led investigators to their bodies.

He was sentenced for the murder of the two-year Natasha McClendon to death in November 1975 in the death row transferred from Texas. Granviel was to be the first prisoner to be executed in September 1977 after the death penalty was reinstated in 1976, but his lawyers obtained a suspension of the execution date. His lethal injection did not come until more than 20 years after his conviction in February 1996 in the Huntsville Unit . He was the longest inmate on death row in Texas.
