Kenneth Jonsson

Kenneth Jonsson (* 1950 in Filipstad ) is a Swedish archaeologist and numismatist .

Life

After studying at Lund University (fil.kand. 1973), Kenneth Jonsson received his doctorate in 1987 as a student of Brita Malmer at Stockholm University , where he has been a lecturer since 1990. After working at the Münzkabinett in Stockholm and at the auction company Ahlström, he worked as a research assistant at the Humanistisk-samhällsvetenskapliga forskningsrådet from 1988 to 1992 . Since 1992 he has been Professor of Numismatics and Monetary History at Stockholm University, succeeding Brita Malmer and holder of the Gunnar Ekström Professorship for Numismatics and Monetary History. The professorship is endowed by the Gunnar Ekströms stiftelse för numismatisk forskning and is assigned to the Institute of Archeology. The main research focus is on the history of coins and money in Northern Europe in the Middle Ages. Since 2003 he has published the journal Myntstudier on the Internet.
