Filipstad is a city in the Swedish province of Värmlands län or the historic province of Värmland and is the capital of the municipality of the same name Filipstad .

Filipstad is located in an elongated wilderness area east of the Klarälvtal . This area is largely untouched by tourism. Filipstad is known for its adventurous leisure activities, such as draisine rides, covered wagon rides and canoeing. Around Filipstad is one of the most mineral-rich areas on earth with many old mines such as the Långban mine settlement . It is home to beavers and moose . In the south Filipstad borders on a wide and flat arable and cultural landscape. North of Filipstad there are numerous rivers, deep forests and increasingly higher mountains.

There is mainly small industry in Filipstad. In the place of the head office and production site is the world-famous Wasa - crispbread .
history
Iron ore has been found and mined in Filipstad since the 15th century . Around this place, houses and villages, blacksmiths and mining pits eventually emerged. Some of the pioneering buildings still stand today. In some cases, however, the wilderness is also regaining it. Here factors included John Ericsson the first armored ships, the inventor of the propeller and designer; also the Swedish native poet Nils Ferlin . In 1881 the composer Edvin Kallstenius was born in Filipstad . Remains of formerly flourishing iron ore mines with old canals, cinder mounds and disused ironworks can still be seen today.

In Filipstad is the Klockarhöjdenmasten, a 330 meter high transmission mast for VHF and TV. It is one of the tallest structures in Sweden.
