Because of the city, Kepler Museum in the birthplace of Johannes Kepler

The Kepler Museum Weil der Stadt is a museum dedicated to the life and work of the astronomer Johannes Kepler , which was opened in 1940 in the house where the scholar was born in Weil der Stadt .

history

The first plans for the establishment of a Kepler Museum "possibly in the Kepler House" were made in the 1860s, in advance of the construction of the Kepler Memorial in Weil der Stadt. The small half-timbered building (Keplergasse 2) next to the town hall, in which Kepler was born in 1571, may now have a 500-year history behind it. In any case, it becomes tangible for the first time around the year 1560, when Kepler's grandfather leased it for his son, and we know that it was damaged in the final years of the Thirty Years War , but was rebuilt according to the old plans. It was finally acquired in 1938 by a Keplerhaus association founded for this purpose and converted into a museum on the initiative of the astronomical historian Max Caspar . In 1999 it was renovated and redesigned with the aim of highlighting Kepler's importance as a co-founder of modern thinking and the natural sciences. Operation and support are the responsibility of the Kepler Society

Comparable facilities

From an exhibition at the Kepler Gymnasium in Graz in 1994 , which referred to the beginning of Kepler's stay there from 1594 to 1600, the Kepler room was preserved as a permanent museum. In Prague , too , the building near Charles Bridge , where Kepler lived between 1607 and 1612, has recently been commemorating the astronomer with its own museum. Another Kepler Museum is the Kepler Memorial House in Regensburg ; it is housed in the house in which Kepler died on November 15, 1630.
