The Ceramic Museum Berlin (KMB) is a museum of the city of Berlin . It was founded in 1990 and is since January 17, 2004 at the premises of Schustehrusstraße 13 in the district of Charlottenburg the district Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf . Here in special exhibitions are designer well-known classics and works ceramists shown.

History of the house

The museum is located in the oldest surviving town house in Charlottenburg's old town . It was built in 1712 based on a model by the court architect Eosander von Göthe, King Friedrichs I. , which is binding for the town houses in Charlottenburg .

The building in need of restoration with two inner courtyards was entered on the Senate's list of monuments in 1981 . On December 24, 1983 there was an unauthorized demolition attempt by the owner, in which the house was badly damaged and which was thwarted by citizens only at the last minute. The house was then taken over by the public sector and reconstructed under the direction of the architect Ulli Böhme using old building materials and techniques - now with a classical facade. The state curator assumed the costs for this.

Exhibitions

In the museum, the non-profit association KMB, which has rented the rooms from the district, presents its collections in constantly changing special exhibitions. Additional topic-related events round off the cultural offer.
