Kevelaer marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kevelaer Marathon (until 2007 Honigkuchenmann Marathon ) was a marathon that took place in Kevelaer since 2003 at the beginning of January . It was organized by LLG Laufsport Kevelaer and took place on a 6 km lap to be completed seven times, which was followed by a 195 m finish.

organization

The marathon got its name from the honey cake that was given to every finisher until 2007.

Until 2012 there was a participant limit of 400 runners; the run was usually booked out several months in advance. Since 2013 the event has not taken place in the Schravelschen Heide, but in the Kevelaer district of Twisteden , which means that there was no participant limit.

On January 7, 2018, the marathon was held for the 16th time and the Scot Nikki Johnstones was able to improve the course record established in 2015 by around 5 minutes.

In 2019, LLG Laufsport Kevelaer announced the end of the event on its website, as stable organization including preparation and follow-up could no longer be guaranteed with the dwindling number of club members.
