Kevin John Hogarth

Kevin John Hogarth (born February 10, 1934 ) is a retired Australian boxer . He won a bronze welterweight medal at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 .

Career

Kevin Hogarth achieved his first notable success as a boxer at the 1955 Australian Championship in Hobart. He reached the final in the light middleweight division , in which, however, he lost to Claude Walsh. In October 1956 he secured the right to start at the Olympic Games of that year by winning the Australian Olympic elimination tournament in Melbourne. He won it welterweight over John Tapp and John Zorz each on points.

In the Olympic boxing tournament in Melbourne he won over Graham Finlay, New Zealand and Andras Döri, Hungary. In the semifinals he lost to Frederick Tiedt from Ireland. By reaching the semi-finals, however, he had already won an Olympic bronze medal.

1957 Kevin Hogarth was Australian light middleweight champion.

In 1958 he started at the 6th Commonwealth Games (British Empire Games) in Cardiff. He defeated there in the light middleweight Francis Nyangweso from Uganda on points, but lost in the subsequent fight in the quarterfinals against Stuart Pearson from England on points. With these results he reached the 5th place.

After these championships he ended his career as an amateur boxer. He never became a professional boxer.
