Haus Hilmecke is near the section of the federal highway 236 that leads from Altenhundem to Schmallenberg . Neighboring towns on the main road are Saalhausen and Fleckenberg .

The small town had four residents at the end of June 2020. It is characterized by a holiday hotel with a garden restaurant and extensive outdoor facilities. The parent company was built in 1870; first holiday guests were accepted in 1924.

The 154 km long Rothaarsteig hiking route is ideal for leisure activities ; it is also known as the “Path of the Senses” and extends from Brilon to Dillenburg . A section runs near Haus Hilmecke below the ridge of the Rothaargebirge . In addition, numerous hiking trails are marked on site. The SauerlandRadring , which passes along federal road 236, is particularly attractive for cyclists . It covers 84 km and connects u. a. the places Schmallenberg with Fredeburg , Eslohe , Fretter , Frielentrop , Altenhundem, Kickenbach , Saalhausen and Schmallenberg. Partly the route leads over disused old railway lines. A visit to the spa park, which was enlarged and embellished in summer 2015 as part of the talVital measure, is ideal for rewarding leisure activities. The Wildpark-Sauerland and the Elspe Festival with the annual Karl May performances are known nationwide .
