The village of Hachen is a district of Lennestadt and is secluded from traffic on the edge of the Rothaargebirge about 2-3 km from the village of Elspe .

history

The origin of Hachen is not known in detail. Due to its proximity to Elspe, it can be assumed after the year 1000. During this Carolingian-Ottonian period, settlements arose in the region in connection with larger clearings , which were probably directed by the royal court in Elspe. In the following some events contained in old documents or records are mentioned.

The root of the place name Hachen is the Old Saxon word "hagan" for thorn bush, from which a job name or settlement "near a thorn hedge" can be interpreted.

In the period from around 1360 to the Soest feud in 1444, the land of Bilstein fell to the Count of the Mark . Only the cities of Attendorn , Olpe and Drolshagen and the area around Elspe (with Hachen) remained with the Archbishop of Cologne. Presumably for this reason the Count von der Mark had the remaining land of Bilstein fortified with a Landwehr . The Brandenburg state border, which is still visible in large sections in the area, led up the Lenne from Finnentrop to Theten, crossed the Lenne here (still a ford through the Lenne today) and on the other side of the Lenne up the mountain to the "Stepel" “(Heiligenhäuschen Meggen) to continue over the middle Hardt to Halberbracht . The place Hachen, which belongs to Cologne, was at this time a border place to the neighboring Brandenburg "foreign countries".

Godert Vogt von Elspe already owned an estate in Hachen in 1467, which Noldeken managed, from which he sold the church masters (helpers of the pastor) in Elspe a pension to illuminate the Holy Cross. When the inheritance of the brothers Heinrich and Wilhelm Vogt von Elspe was divided in 1467, Gerken and Schalckhans Gut zu Hachen and the narrow tithe are mentioned there. In 1485, in addition to Hermann von Leckebert vicecurait (= vice pastor), Hans Groteboile van Hachen was also named as church master in an agreement according to which the Ewig monastery was to write a missal according to "Cologne rules". The Bocks Hof zu Hachen is also mentioned when the brothers Heinrich, Bernd and Wilhelm Vogt von Elspe are compared with their inheritance. In 1596 and 1598 Michael Haberhans zu Hachen and his wife Katharina were called when they bought land in Elspe. Jost Haverhans zu Hachen is enfeoffed in 1620 by Bernhard Vogt von Elspe zu Bamenohl with a piece of land above the church of Elspe. Agathe Schottlersche von Hachen had a lot of war people in her house in 1636, who went out in the evening and was found dead behind Feckers Hof in Siepen next to the brook.

The first concrete indications of the number of inhabitants result from old appraisal registers . The appraisal register of 1535 and 1543 (used to collect the Turkish tax) of the Duchy of Westphalia shows four persons liable for the treasury in the village of Hachen, who should roughly match the number of existing houses or families.

Place of worship in Hachen

At the end of June 2020, Hachen had a population of 26 and has therefore remained small over the centuries. The external image is predominantly characterized by well-preserved agricultural half-timbered houses with vegetable and fruit gardens. The village trade includes not only agricultural operations (secondary acquisitions), a forestry company, a large carpenter's workshop, a riding stable and a farrier's shop .

The village does not have a church or chapel. At the edge of the village (towards Elspe), however, there is a wayside shrine , which has been converted into a place of worship , which is dedicated to the Blessed Mother .

In the south-east of the Hachen Valley, the Weilenscheid ramparts are located , whose construction (as a ring rampart) can be assumed to have been in the 7th century BC to around the birth of Christ. In more recent times the facility has been provided with a lookout tower . An old way of the cross leads from the parish church to Elspe to Hachen, which was built by the Joseph Scheider (Fecker) family in 1860. This was renewed in 1929 and 1946.

Incorporation

Until June 30, 1969, Hachen belonged to the municipality of Elspe, then on July 1, 1969 it was incorporated into the newly founded town of Lennestadt.
