Schmellenberg is a district of the city of Lennestadt in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The village with 16 inhabitants at the end of June 2018 is located south of the Veischedetal in a basin of the Schmellenberger Bach, which runs parallel to the Apollmicke. To the north-east lies the Hofkühl ramparts , on the opposite side of the Veischede the Jäckelchen ramparts .

The small town is located on the border between the city of Lennestadt and the city of Olpe , between Kirchveischede and Oberveischede .

The Schmellenberg Christ-Koenigs-Chapel was built in 1946 by residents of the village as thanks for the end of National Socialism.

history

Numerous racing fire slag and furnaces as well as surface mining of iron ore bear witness to early iron smelting in the Schmellenberg – Apollmicke area.
