The ramparts Hofkühl is a hill fort near the village Kirchveischede in Lennestadt .

It is located on the 485 meter high Hofkühlberg about 1.5 kilometers southwest of the town on the top of the mountain. It is difficult to date, but it probably belongs to the younger Iron Age ( La Tène period ). The mountain on which the facility is located drops steeply to the Veischedetal to the north and west. In the south and east, the hilltop is steeply demarcated by a brook sift .

Here is a small, elongated oval rampart consisting of a rampart and an outer moat. The inner dimensions of the oval are 80 by 60 meters. The walls of different thicknesses are 3 to 4 meters high, the ditch in front is about 3 to 4 meters wide and today still about one meter deep. In the north-east and south-west there was a gate that can be recognized by the thick walls. Another wall with an outer ditch is located 20 meters away from the northeast gate.

Smaller excavations in 1952 only revealed small pieces of charcoal and red burnt clay. Remnants of posts were not found. Furthermore, a small piece of an edge shard was found. Extensive investigations with a metal probe did not produce any datable findings.

Around 1200 m north-west of the Hofkühl, on the opposite ridge , you can see the Jäckelchen Wallburg , which cordoned off the old Roman road .
