Keywan Riahi is an Austrian energy scientist. He heads the energy program of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and is a lecturer in energy systems analysis at the Graz University of Technology .

Life

Riahi worked as a consultant in the 1990s. He has been employed at IIASA since 1997, initially as a research assistant, from 2005 to 2008 as a scientific coordinator and since 2008 as head of the energy program. Since 2006 he has also been a lecturer for energy system analysis at the Institute for Thermal Engineering at the Graz University of Technology.

Act

Riahi's main research interests are long-term patterns of technological change and economic development , particularly the development of the energy system . Most recently, his research focused on energy-related sources of global change and future development and response strategies in connection with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Since 1998, Riahi has been the chief author and reviewer responsible for various international assessment reports , such as the Global Energy Assessment (GEA), The World in 2050 (TWI2050) and reports from the IPCC , including the Third , Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports , the Special Report on Emission Scenarios (SRES), the Special Report on CO2 Capture and Storage (SRCCS) and the Special Report on Renewable Energy (SRREN) by the IPCC. Riahi is also one of the authors of the IPCC's special report on global warming of 1.5 degrees (2018).
