Special report on the capture and storage of CO 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The special report on the capture and storage of CO 2 (Engl. Special Report on Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage ) is a published in 2005 Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Its subject is the current state of the art of CO 2 capture and storage at the time of publication .

target group

The report provides information for policymakers, scientists and engineers in the field of climate change and reducing CO 2 emissions.

content

The report describes the sources, capture, transport and storage of CO 2 . In addition, the costs, the economic potential and the social problems of the technology, including public perception and regulatory aspects, are discussed. The storage options examined here include geological storage , ocean storage and mineral carbonization . The report relates CO 2 capture and storage, in particular, to other climate protection options such as fuel change, energy efficiency, renewable energies and nuclear energy.

The report states that the potential for CO 2 capture and storage is significant and that the costs of climate change mitigation could be reduced compared to strategies that only consider other climate protection options. The importance of future capture and storage of CO 2 in mitigating climate change depends on a number of factors, including the financial incentives provided for its use, and whether the risks of storage can be successfully managed.
