The Khangchung Lake (or Khangchung Cho or Khangchung Tso ) is a glacial rim lake in the eastern Himalayas in North Sikkim ( India ).
The mountain lake is located on the northern flank of the Dongkya group on the edge of the Tibetan plateau at an altitude of 5303 m . It has a water surface of 172 hectares and a circumference of 8.65 km. The lake, which is about 4 km north-northwest of Pauhunri, is fed by the Tista-Khangtse glacier . The lake is considered the origin of the Lachen Chu , the right source river of the Tista . The lake is accessible via a road up the Lachen Chu river valley. Due to the proximity to the Chinese border, special authorizations are required.
