The Khassonke are an ethnic group of the Kayes region in Mali .

They are descendants of the Fulbe and Malinke on the territory of the Khasso kingdoms and speak Khassonke , a Mande language that is similar to Bambara .

Their traditional musical instruments are called dundunba (a large cylindrical drum with two skins), jingò (a small cylindrical drum with two skins), tantanwò (a small drum), tamandinwo (an aisselle (armpit drum) as well as lutes , harps and hunting whistles .
