Khatare (also Khatara / Khatarah or Hatarah , Arabic ختاره, Kurmanji Xatarê even Xatara) is a jesidisches village in the north of Iraq . The village is located about 15 km southwest of Alqosh in the Tel Kaif district in the Ninawa governorate . The place is located in the Nineveh Plain and is one of the disputed areas of Northern Iraq .

In March 1832 there was a massacre of the Yazidi population of Khatares by the Kurdish prince Mohammed Pascha Rewanduz .
