The Khmer Times is an English-language daily newspaper published in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh . It appears from Monday to Friday and the website is constantly updated.

history

The Khmer Times was founded in 2013 as the third English-language daily newspaper in Cambodia, alongside The Cambodia Daily (only online since 2017) and The Phnom Penh Post by the Malaysian businessman Mohan Tirugmanasam Bandam of Indian origin. Mohan has previously worked in Cambodian media. He headed the Cambodia Times from 1992 to 1995 and Cambodia Today from 1995 to 1996 . He was also the editor of The Vision newspaper until it was discontinued in June 2000.

After the Cambodia Daily reported in an article on March 2, 2018 that the Khmer Times was receiving thousands of dollars from Chen Lip Keong, president of Cambodia's largest hotel and gaming group, Naga Corporation, and from Hun Manit, son of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen that threatened Khmer Times the Cambodia Daily to sue for false reports.

Allegations of plagiarism

From autumn 2014, the owner of the Khmer Times, T. Mohan, published articles himself, which the online community Khmer440 exposed as plagiarism in December 2015. Most of his articles are mere copies of contributions from Malaysian bloggers or from students, journalists, academics and even clergy. He is also said to have written letters to the editor himself. Mohan stopped his editorial work after the allegations in late 2015.
