Mel Pollan

Melvin "Mel" Pollan (born June 13, 1931 in Methuen , Massachusetts ) is an American jazz and studio musician ( double bass , electric bass ).

Mwel Pollan, a son of tuba player and bassist Albert Pollan (who played with Marty Paich and Stan Kenton ), worked in the Californian music scene from the mid-1950s, first with Dave Pell , with whom the first recordings were made ( Love Story ), then at Les Brown and in the mid-1960s in the Baja Marimba Band around Julius Wechter. He has also worked on recording sessions with Billy Usselton (1957), Fred Katz ( Folk Songs for Far Out Folks , 1958), Bob Florence , Si Zentner (1959), Buddy Collette (1961), Richard Behrke , Gene Estes and Johnny Hartman ( I. Love Everybody , 1966) with. In the field of jazz he was involved in 24 recording sessions between 1956 and 1966, as a session musician also with Jan and Dean , Cher ( All I Really Want to Do , 1965), The Beach Boys ( The Smile Sessions ) and in the film music for Stakeout on Dope Street (1958, directed by Irvin Kershner ) and the TV series Johnny Staccato (1960).
