Chubz ( Arabic خبز, DMG ḫubz ), other spellings Khubz , Khuboos or Khubus , generally means “bread” in Arab countries. An Arab flatbread is specifically meant. It is a staple food in the countries of the Arabian Peninsula , Lebanon , Syria , Jordan and the Palestinian Territories .

Chubz is similar to a large flatbread and is mostly baked in a special oven called a tannūr . The dough is turned like a pizza on a round disc until it is the right size and then baked on the inside of the oven. When the chubz is done baked, it will puff up and have characteristic brown spots. A wire hook is used to remove the bread from the oven wall. The traditional Iraqi chubz differs in that it does not form a pocket. The usual variant with a bag is also very popular.

Chubz is similar to Indian flatbreads such as B. Chapatis , Turkish Yufkas and Mexican Tortillas .

Chubz is made from a yeast dough made from coarse wheat flour or whole wheat flour with the addition of water, salt and olive oil. Spices are also rarely mixed in.
