Vortex Records

Vortex Records was an American jazz record label that existed in the mid to late 1960s.

The Vortex jazz label was run by Herbie Mann while he was under contract with Atlantic Records . Both Vortex and Herbie Mann's other embryo label were distributed by Atlantic. Mann produced recordings of Chick Corea (his debut album Tones for Joan's Bone , 1966), Roy Ayers , Robin Kenyatta ( Until ), Leo Wright , Dave Pike , Byard Lancaster ( It's Not Up To Us , 1968), Joe Zawinul ( The Rise & Fall of the Third Stream , 1968) and Sonny Sharrock ( Black Woman , 1969). The first three albums by pianist Keith Jarrett , Life Between the Exit Signs, Restoration Ruin and Somewhere Before were also released on Vortex .
