Kick it like Kurt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kick it like Kurt is a documentary about Kurt Landauer from 2010 by the Kreisjugendring München-Stadt in cooperation with the NS Documentation Center .

backgrounds

The film is the result of a project by young adults who, in search of role models for a natural and solidarity-based cooperation between Jewish and non-Jewish Munich residents, came across the Jewish merchant's son Kurt Landauer and FC Bayern Munich . Kurt Landauer (born July 28, 1884 in Planegg; † December 21, 1961 in Munich), long-time President of FC Bayern Munich, shaped the club, but also football as a whole. For the National Socialists, the association was known as a “Jewish Club”. Landauer resigned in 1933, was deported to the Dachau concentration camp during the so-called Reichspogromnacht in 1938 and emigrated to Switzerland after 33 days in prison. In 1947 he returned to Munich and rebuilt FC Bayern.

content

The present and the past meet and talk: football historians, Kurt Landauer's nephew Uri Siegel, pictures and a comic scene tell about events from back then and alternate with voices and impressions of the present, the Jewish sports club TSV Maccabi Munich , the Ultras Schickeria Munich and the initiative “Lion fans against the right”. In the spirit of Kurt Landauer, they are all committed to democratic values, against right-wing extremism and racism in the stadium. They carry on Landauer's legacy, give us an insight into his life and shed light on the traces he left behind. The film not only presents the early history of FC Bayern, but above all shows the story of the joint work of Jews and non-Jews, in solidarity and in a democratic spirit, which even the National Socialists could not break.

In memory of Kurt Landauer and out of respect for his work, the film appeals not only to football fans: "Kick it like Kurt"!

Development process

For almost a year and a half, the team of young filmmakers, football fans and history buffs grappled with Kurt Landauer and the roots of FC Bayern. With the support of Gabriele Kröber, an almost professional documentary film with a length of 53 minutes was created. The film is based on interviews, historical material about Kurt Landauer and the early years of FC Bayern, but also about Munich and especially the Schwabing district, “the cradle” of FC Bayern. The material was regularly viewed and scientifically examined with the National Socialist Documentation Center .
