Kidder Smith

George Everard Kidder Smith (born 1913 in Birmingham (Alabama) ; † 1997 ) was an American architecture critic and photographer.

biography

Smith studied architecture at Princeton University , where he graduated in 1938 with an MFA .

He served in the US Navy during World War II, where he performed special photographic tasks.

Smith wrote several books which he illustrated with his own pictures. His first book was published in 1943 Brazil Builds ( Brazil builds ) in which it is in cooperation with the Museum of Modern Art with the South American modernism dealt.

The book Brazil Builds followed titles such as Switzerland builds ( The Switzerland builds ), Sweden builds ( Sweden builds ), Italy Builds ( Italy builds ) and his most important work, Sourcebook of American Architecture ( Source Book of American Architecture ).
