Kief (also Keef , Kef or Kif ) is a powdery substance made from the trichomes of the hemp plant . It is usually obtained with a grinder , in which the crushed herbs fall into one compartment by rubbing two discs and into another where the keef is collected through a very fine-meshed sieve, also known as a pollinator. The keef, which mainly contains the intoxicating substance tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is usually consumed together with marijuana and / or tobacco in the form of joints or hash. In hashish is practically virgin to Kief (but other materials, such as extenders can be added).

In Dutch coffee shops, kief has also been referred to as pollen since the 1990s , which can be confusing for consumers as it is by no means the pollen from male cannabis plants.
