The Kieler Neuesten Nachrichten had been the daily newspaper with the highest circulation in Kiel since the end of the 19th century .

The newspaper was founded in 1894 under the name “General-Anzeiger für Schleswig-Holstein” by geology professor Johannes Lehmann-Hohenberg , who wanted to create a platform for Friedrich Naumann's National Social Association .

Publishing director became the major a. D. Hermann Weisse, the former elementary school teacher Wilhelm Schwaner was employed as the responsible editor . Like Lehmann-Hohenberg, both were staunch supporters of Moritz von Egidys and his socio-ethical publications. On May 1, 1895, the newspaper was renamed Kieler Latest News . In September 1896 Schwaner put to differences with Lehmann Hohenberg about the financial difficulties of the company's activity down and moved to Berlin reform of Martin Glünicke . The new editor-in-chief was the soil reformer Adolf Damaschke .

In 1897 Lehmann-Hohenberg had to sell the newspaper. It became the property of the major Saxon publisher Gottlieb Paul Leonhardt , who made it a classic general gazette. According to Damaschke's biographer, “the newspaper lost its tendency towards social and life reform”. The paper was now politically independent and at the same time loyal to the emperor. Between 1895 and 1910 the circulation increased from 7,500 to around 70,000. The Kieler Neuesten Nachrichten was published until 1945. Today, the Kieler Nachrichten is the successor to the Kieler Neuesten Nachrichten .
