Kieran Phelan

Kieran Phelan (born November 19, 1949 in Raheen Upper, Donaghmore , County Laois , † May 26, 2010 in Dublin ) was an Irish politician .

After completing school he worked as a farmer and later as an auctioneer . Phelan, who was a member of the Fianna Fáil , began his political career initially in local politics when he was elected to Laois County Council in 1991 . From 1998 to 1999 he was its chairman.

After he had run unsuccessfully for a seat in the Seanad Éireann , the upper house of the Irish Parliament , in 1997, he succeeded in moving into the 22nd Seanad Éireann in 2002. In 2007 he was re-elected to the 23rd Seanad Éireann.

Phelan was married with five children.
