Kikkoman KK ( Japanese キ ッ コ ー マ ン 株式会社 , Kikkōman Kabushiki gaisha , English Kikkoman Corporation ) is a Japanese company that manufactures soy sauces , among other things . It is listed on the Nikkei 225 , ISIN JP3240400006. The company name (company) was composed of the Japanese Kikkō for turtle shell and one for 10,000. According to Japanese legend, the turtle lives for 10,000 years and is thus a symbol of happiness, wealth and a long life.

In 1917 the two families Mogi and Takanashi founded a family company called Noda Shōyu KK ( 野 田 醤 油 株式会社 ). This became the Kikkōman Shōyu KK ( キ ッ コ ー マ ン 醤 油 株式会社 ) in 1964 and the Kikkōman KK in 1980 . The company is the global market leader and employs a total of 6,000 people at nine production sites in Japan, the USA , the Netherlands , Singapore , Taiwan and China . Around 400 million liters of soy sauce leave the factories there every year. The demand of the European market has been covered by the production facility in Sappemeer in the Netherlands since 1997 .
