Thracian tribes

The Kikonen (Greek Κίκονες Kikones ) were a mythological people of antiquity in Thrace . They are said to have lived on the coast in the area where the tribes of the Bistons and Saier later settled.

The Kikonen are mentioned by Homer as allies of the Trojans in the Trojan War against the Greeks. Their leader was Euphemus. Odysseus is said to have visited them immediately after the fall of Troy and before his wanderings and plundered the iconic capital Ismaros (probably later Maroneia ).

"Kikonen" was used as a synonym for "Thracian" by poets of the ancient world.
