Kilians
Kilianer is a red wine variety . It is also Blue Kilianer or Kiliansrebe called. It is probably a cross between the wild grapes Vitis riparia and Vitis labrusca and possibly other grape varieties. The Kilian therefore belongs to the hybrid vine family . In 1883 this grape variety came from Erfurt to Dudenhofen in the Palatinate, where it was spread in the area around Speyer by the gardener and police officer Kilian Vonderschmitt . This grape variety is resistant to phylloxera and fungal diseases such as the real and thedowny mildew of grapevine .
The acid-fresh wines that are made from the grape are also called pugs or rambas in the Palatinate. Kilianer wines are still produced in the Dudenhofen area today.
