Kim Jeong-hwan (born January 22, 1954 in Seoul ) is a South Korean writer and poet .

Life

Kim Jeong-hwan was born in Seoul on January 22nd, 1954 . He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in English in 1980 . In the same year he made his debut with the publication of six works.

Kim's view of a largely working class society clearly illustrates the poetic transformation he went through in the late 1980s. In the late 1990s, Kim published a collection of poems called On Trains (기차 에 대하여). The poems in this anthology reveal the worldview and character of the working class, through a simple and succinct language, free from the occasional monotony normally found in prose.

Kim also published some realistic poems dealing with the suffering, frustrations, and hopes of the minjung (popular masses).
